First OPI + Essie Haul for 2013

Hello readers!Happy 2013 to you all!

I’m finally back from 15 days in Bangkok, Thailand for a week now but fell ill for a few days. During that few days I purchased some nail polishes that I have been eyeing in 2012. I thought I cheer myself up (excuses…excuses…) I bite the bullet and bought them. A total of 4 in fact.

OPI The Living Daylights, Casino Royale, Sweet Heart, Essie Van D'Go

OPI The living Daylights and Casino Royale are from the James Bond Collection. I just adore the plum color of Casino Royale. I do not have this shade in my collection so I am very happy to welcome it to my nail polish family. I really do like this for fall and winter but I believe I will carry this shade with me to Spring and Summer too. It will make a great toe nail color, especially if it’s paired with The Living Daylights.

Please excuse the dog’s fur decoration around my toes.

The Living Daylights is a hexagon glitter polish in clear base. The hexagons are in orange, green, silver and very light shade of gold. This color combination is unique and in my opinion, looks like party balloons in a nail polish. The glitters came out quite dense. I realised I do not want my nails to be covered 80% in glitters so in future I will just dot on the glitters so that it looked sparse and widely separated.

Casino Royale is a beautiful plum color that can be built up into a darker more vampish shade. 1 coat is sufficient for me to cover my toe nails entirely and I prefer not to be too dark of a shade. However, even though the polish has dried, it still stained my top coat brush which made it a chore for me to add top coat.

Sweet Heart is a light Barbie pink. Looks great as a french manicure base however like Essie’s Ballet Slippers, it’s a streaky mess to work with. I had to put on 3 coats but it still shows some streak marks in some nails. I admit, I’m not a very good nail polish painter but I have worked with some great polish formulas that despite my inadequate skills, still allows me to look like I went to had it done by manicurist. It does dry relatively quick just like other OPI polishes I have. Despite the nice pinkish shade, it does look too plain and boring so I added The Living Daylights on the tips to brighten up the look.

Van D’Go I have yet to test out, but from what I heard, it’s a beautiful peachy pink shade. I have been looking for the perfect peach shade of nail polish that suit my skin tone. I tried Essie’s Tart Deco, looks peachy pink in the bottle but it leans more orange on my nails.
